Public Invited to Attend Texas Senate Agriculture, Water, and Rural Affairs Harvey Committee Hearing

Houston, TX – The Texas Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water, and Rural Affairs will host a committee hearing on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., located at Wharton County Junior College, 911 E. Boling Hwy, Wharton, Texas 77488.

The committee will hear invited and public testimony regarding the impact to agriculture and rural communities from Hurricane Harvey, along with the following charge:

1) Study and make recommendations on how to move forward with water infrastructure projects in the State Water Plan that will help mitigate floods through flood control, diversion, and storage projects. Evaluate plans for a possible third reservoir in addition to Addicks and Barker to control and alleviate additional flooding in the region. Additionally, review the current status of reservoir projects in Texas. Examine opportunities for coordination between federal and state agencies to develop flood mitigation infrastructure, and the ongoing maintenance and restoration of critical dam infrastructure.

While the conversation will focus on rural and agricultural Harvey related issues, both Council Member Dave Martin and Senator Brandon Creighton want to make sure residents are notified of all opportunities to make comments related to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s interim charges for the Texas Senate.

Public testimony will be limited to 2 minutes per person. Written testimony will be accepted at the event. Lane Closure at West Lake Houston Parkway and Northpark Drive

SCHEDULED: Lane Closure at West Lake Houston Parkway and Northpark Drive

Houston, TX – Council Member Dave Martin would like to make Kingwood residents aware that the northbound inside left turn lane on West Lake Houston Parkway at Northpark Drive will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, January 6. The lane is expected to reopen by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, weather permitting.

This lane closure is part of phase one of the Lake Houston Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ 10) intersection improvements at West Lake Houston Parkway and Northpark Drive, which are expected to be complete Spring 2018.

Intermittent delays are expected during construction. As a result, Council Member Martin has alerted the Houston Police Department’s Kingwood Substation and has asked that officers help with traffic mitigation when possible. Additionally, traffic control measures will be in place on site including traffic barrels, traffic cones, directional signage and flagmen.
